Student-Unit Enrolment (SUE) on-line: Choosing units for next academic year (2013/14)
Choosing your optional units for 2013/14 on-line
Non-finalist undergraduate students will be emailed on Wednesday 17 April 2013 and asked to choose their optional units on-line. Students should log into the SAMIS-on-the-web home page and make any optional unit choices as required. This facility is only available from 17 April until 5pm on 1 May. Some additional guidance has been produced to explain the process and the deadlines - see 'Changing and choosing options' (pdf).
The following students have not been asked to choose their units on-line:
- Natural Science students (because you've already made your choices on paper).
- Chemistry students who will be in year 2 in 2013/14 on a programme which only has laboratory units as options. Your department will allocate you to your laboratory units.
Text of the e-mail sent to students to ask them to choose their units on-line
Dear Student,
Subject: IMPORTANT! Choosing your optional units for the 2013/14 academic year
About this time every year the University asks undergraduate non-finalists to choose their units for the next academic year. This is done online using special software, which enters data directly into the University's student record system (SAMIS). Once you have chosen the correct number of optional units, your School/Department will authorise your choices, and we will email you to confirm when this has been done. Confirmation of unit choices will happen in late May. If you have no options to choose, the screen will display an appropriate message and will allow you to see what you will be doing next year.
Unit information displayed on the web screen is related to the programme/year that we think you will be on in 2013/14. At present we think you will be on [programme code]; [programme title]; [year of programme] in the 2013/14 academic year. If your circumstances have changed, you must contact your programme administrator in order to get your details changed on the student record using a change of circumstance form. A blank change of circumstance form can be generated and printed from the SAMIS web screen. Once this change has been actioned on SAMIS, the correct units will be displayed, and you will be able to make your choices.
For students going out on placement/study abroad in 2013/4 ONLY:
Although our records show that you will be going on placement or study abroad next year, we're emailing you just in case this has changed and you now need to choose your options - please complete a change of circumstance form and give it to your department/school so we can get your records updated and then you can choose your options for next year. If you are still going on placement/study year abroad then you can ignore the rest of this email.
For ALL students:
Please go to the following web address: https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/ and log on using your BUCS username and password. Alternatively, click on the SAMIS link on the University's Home Page. The screens work best with Internet Explorer. Please read the "Instructions for completing module registration" which can be found in the "Help" section, before starting to choose your units. http://www.bath.ac.uk/catalogues/information/students/online-unit-selection.html
We also strongly recommend that you look at your programme and unit catalogue on the web before choosing your units as this will give you an overall picture of the range of options you are able to choose from. A link to the web catalogue can be found within SAMIS on the web. You MUST complete this process by 5pm on 1st May 2013, after which time you will only be able to tell us your unit choices using a paper form.
If you have got choices to make for next year it is VERY IMPORTANT that you make them online during the next 2 weeks. You will only be allowed to change your choice of units under very exceptional circumstances. Read all the information that your department/school is making available to you and think carefully about your unit choices. By making your choices online this information is fed into the timetabling process and it will assist with setting the timetable for next year.
For undergraduate Management Students ONLY (BAF/BBA/IMML):
You can view additional information on the teaching and assessment of management units in the Management Undergraduate Options section of Moodle. The Moodle resource includes only those handouts which have been made available by staff members. It also covers all Management degree programmes, and some units are not available to all of them. The complete list of units available to you is, at all times, in the on-line course catalogue.
For PoLIS Language and IMML students who will be in their final year in 2013/4 ONLY:
You must specify an order of preference for your "National" options. After the web form has closed your department will check what everyone has requested and confirm what "National" options you will be taking in 2013/14. We will email you when this has been done. All other options can be chosen as normal.
For ALL students:
We appreciate that the results of your semester 2 exams may sometimes affect your academic choices for next year. However, access to this online process will only be available until 5pm on 1st May, and we would like you to make your choices in anticipation that you will progress normally to the next year of your programme.
If you have any difficulties with either accessing or using the screens please use the "Contact Support" button on the web screen. We would also welcome feedback - good or bad!
Many thanks.
