Key Skills

Key skills are generic, transferable skills that will help you succeed in your academic studies and which are highly valued by employers. They include the skills necessary for good communication, IT, group work, problem-solving and performance development. Some of these skills will be addressed in your academic units whilst others you may develop through participation in extra-curricula activities.

The Library offers guidance on developing information skills through an online Moodle course as well as a list of links to various key skills resources. Face to face training courses designed to help students practice these skills are organised through the SORTED induction skills training and also through the Careers Service development programme.

Whilst at university students are encouraged to record the development of such skills and personal achievements using a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
