LINC mentor job description
Department: Student Services
Reports to: International Student Advice Team
Location: Claverton Campus and around Bath
Job purpose:
LINC mentors help new international students adapt quickly to life in a new culture through:
- sharing experiences
- answering questions
- offering practical help, such as going shopping with their mentees
- discussing differences in culture
- introducing mentees to the opportunities and support available to them through the Students’ Union and Student Services.
Duties and responsibilities:
As a LINC mentor you are expected to:
Over the summer
- Be in touch with up to six mentees via email and Facebook and respond to their questions
- Attend a three-hour training session on 19 September
In Freshers’ Week
- Come to the two-hour Welcome Event on 23 September
- Go shopping with your mentees
- Hold a drop-in coffee and chat session for two hours
In the first two weeks of term
- Go to the SU Activities fair or Sports’ Fair with your mentees
- Go to a film and discussion night with your mentees
- Take photos – we want at least five photos of you and your mentees to share with new students
Highly recommended in Semester 1
- Organise a sporting activity or tourist trip
- Organise a meal together with your mentees (where you or your mentees cook)
