Full Time Undergraduates 2012/2013
New 2012 Entrants
UK Home students can apply for funding through their relevant awarding
agency. EU Students can also apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK
Government.
Please note any funding entitlement for a new course may be
affected if you have undertaken any previous Higher Education study in
a UK or
Overseas Institution, whether or not you completed the course. Find

Tuition Fees for 2012-13 are £9,000 unless
you are doing a Foundation Degree course at one of the Partner Colleges. Tuition
fees will increase
as approved by Government. Check the Student
Finance Office web pages
for up to date details. Please note, Tuition Fees will be lower in a placement
year.
Maintenance Loans
Worth up to a maximum of £5,500 per year towards living costs (£4,375
if living at home). All students can apply for the minimum of £3,575
(£2,843 if living at home) with the balance being dependant on
household income and any Maintenance Grant entitlement. The interest
rate on loans will be RPI (Retail Price Index) inflation plus 3% whilst
you are studying. Maintenance Loans are not available to those aged 60
or over.
Maintenance Grants
Worth up to £3,250 a year towards living costs. Eligibility depends
on household income.

Special Support Grant
Worth up to £3,250 a year towards living costs. Eligibility depends
on household income and meeting one of the following categories:
•
Are a lone (single) parent
•
Have a partner who is also a student and one or both of you are responsible
for a child or young person under 20 who is in full time education below
higher education level
•
Have a disability and qualify for the Disability Premium or Severe Disability
Premium
•
Are deaf and qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowances
•
Have been treated as incapable of work for at least 28 weeks
•
Have a disability and qualify for income-related Employment and Support
Allowance
•
Are from abroad and are entitled to an Income Support Urgent Cases Payment
because you are temporarily without any money for up to six weeks
•
Are waiting to go back to a course having taken agreed time out from
that course due to an illness or caring responsibility that has now ended
•
Are aged 60 or older
Please note: You will only be eligible for either the Maintenance Grant
or Special Support Grant, not both. The Special Support Grant doesn’t
count as income when working out if you’re entitled to income-related
benefits or tax credits. Childcare Grant
For full time students with dependent children in registered childcare
who are not receiving the child care element of the Working Tax Credit
from the Inland Revenue. The grant is dependant on household income and
will cover up to 85% of childcare costs to a maximum of £148.75
a week for one child or £255 for two or more children. Eligibility
is dependant on household income. Further information can be found here.
Parents Learning Allowance
Eligibility is dependant in household income. The Parents Learning Allowance
is worth up to £1,508 a year for full time students with dependent

Travel Grant
If you are a full time student studying in a University outside of the
UK for most of an academic quarter (normally the equivalent to a term)
you may get a grant equal to the amount you reasonably have to pay
for travel expenses and medical insurance less the first £303.
