UK Government Student Support
Part Time Undergraduates 2012/13
Pre 2012 Entrants
The main sources of government funded help for lower income part-time
students are:
Fee Grant - to help with tuition fees
Course Grant - to help with study costs, such as books, materials and
travel
The maximum Fee Grant you can get is based on how ‘intensive’ your
course is (i.e. how long it takes to complete compared to the equivalent
of a full-time course). Part time students may qualify for additional
tuition fee support through the Access to Learning Fund.
The support available depends on your Student Grants Awarding
Agency.

If you’re getting certain benefits, you’ll qualify for the
maximum automatically. Otherwise, how much you can get depends on your
personal circumstances and household income.
Any help you get through the Fee Grant or Course Grant doesn’t
have to be paid back.
New 2012 Entrants
From 2012 Government Tuition Fee Loans of up to £6,750 are available to English part-time students whose courses are at least 25 per cent of a full-time course each year (eg. four years part-time instead of one year full-time).
The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to the university to cover your fees.
Part-time students who earn over £21,000 a year have to start paying back their loans after four years even if their course hasn't finished.
The support available depends on your Student Grants Awarding
Agency.
