When to apply

Undergraduates can apply from 1 September onwards and should complete their applications by the middle of January. You do not need to have completed your high school education in order to apply. We may make you a conditional offer setting out the level of performance we expect in your remaining examinations and assessments.

Masters candidates may apply from 31 October onwards. This includes students in the final year of their degree studies as we can offer a place on a conditional basis.

Students interested in a research degree may apply at any time and we can offer admission at various points throughout the year. Most students prefer to begin their studies at the start of the academic year in October.

Careers

It is important to consider your career options when deciding where to study.

The University of Bath offers support and careers guidance to home and international students as well as assistance in finding part-time work:

Societies

During your studies it is important to feel involved with university life. You will find a range of societies here where you can meet people and participate in events and social occasions.

Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Undergraduate degrees

A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB); various qualifications

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations and the International Baccalaureate for direct entry onto our undergraduate programmes.

Details of entry requirements can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.

Provincial high school qualifications

Entry requirements may vary according to the state or territory in which you completed your high school education. Generally, we will look for a similar range of subjects and level of performance as one of the prestigious Australian universities.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Bachelors degree (honours)

Students who hold a bachelors degree (honours) are eligible to apply for entry to a masters degree.

A full certified transcript must accompany your application.

Entry requirements do vary from programme to programme so please check our postgraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification from a prestigious university

If you are seeking admission to one of our research degrees (MPhil/PhD) then a masters level qualification will generally be needed to satisfy our application requirements.

Evidence of some research experience (for example through a masters degree that included a thesis component or work as a research assistant) is often expected.

In addition to the standard application papers, a research proposal is essential, outlining how you intend to go about your research.

Certified transcripts of all previous degree-level studies must accompany your application.

English language requirements

All students need to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to enroll, this may either be evidenced through school examinations, or as a result of undertaking an English language test, usually TOEFL or IELTS.

In most cases a specific test of English such as TOEFL will not be needed, although sometimes it is requested from non-native English speaking international students who are currently studying in Australia.

More information about English Language requirements.

Scholarships and funding

Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

These are some of the scholarship and funding options available to students from your country:

International Scholarships Scheme

We have 75 scholarships available worth £3,000 each, for international students who are planning to take a postgradaute taught degree at Bath.

You must have already accepted an offer to study on one of our Masters programmes to be eligible to apply. The award is offered as a discount in tuition fees and is valid for one year only.

More details about the International Scholarship Scheme.

Research degree scholarships

For MPhil/PhD students we provide both full and partial research degree scholarships and these are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for certain research topics and others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.

Sponsorship

A number of external funding bodies exist to support masters level study in the UK and any applicant seeking support is strongly advised to explore potential sources of financial aid available in their own country.

Alternatively, there are international agencies, government departments, charitable organisations and private companies that may be able to provide financial aid for certain programmes of study and all are worth exploring.

You can also approach the British Council in your country to find out if they have any funding available.
