Brunei
We offer students a safe learning environment, set in our modern campus surrounded by green fields and only 2km from the beautiful city of Bath. There is a growing community of Bruneian students here, studying both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We have on-campus facilities for Muslim students, including prayer rooms and halal food in our catering outlets. We achieve high rankings across many of our subject areas and are one of the top research universities in the UK.

Country Visits
We aim to visit Brunei at least twice a year, attending exhibitions run by the British Council and our agent HRD Services.
International Student Advice Service
Our international student advice team support all our international students during their studies. They have drop-in sessions or appointments on campus and have a number of useful services available:
- pre-arrival advice and support
- cultural and social orientation
- advice and checking service for visa applications and extensions
- general advice on invalid visas, refusals and appeals
- welfare and support issues
Societies
One of the most popular and active societies on campus is the Bath Area Malaysia and Singapore Association (BAMSA) which is aimed at Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian and Brunei students living and studying here. It is a great way to make friends at the University and get support during your time here.
The society regularly schedules sports matches, and events to celebrate various festivals as well as encouraging cultural exchange and holding an annual BAMSA Night and welcome events for new students. You can join their group on Facebook for more information.

Entry requirements
These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.
Undergraduate programmes
A Levels; International Baccalaureate (IB); Higher National Diploma |
We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into our undergraduate programmes. Details of the grades or points required can be found in our undergraduate prospectus. The Higher National Diploma (B average) from Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) may be considered for Year 2 entry to certain programmes in the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Details of entry requirements can be found in our undergraduate prospectus. |
Postgraduate taught degrees
Bachelors degree from Universiti Brunei Darussalam |
We will consider holders of a Bachelors degree from Universiti Brunei Darussalam for entry to a Masters degree. We normally look for the equivalent of a first or second class degree. If you have studied recently for your Bachelors degree in a university where the medium of instruction is English, we will not normally require you to meet additional conditions for English Language, such as an IELTS test. Please check the postgraduate prospectus for details of our entry requirements. |
Postgraduate Research Degrees
Masters level qualification from a prestigious university |
In many cases, we require a Masters level qualification from a prestigious university for PhD entry. We expect evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project). Before applying to us, it is worth identifying a potential supervisor in the department to ensure that we have the expertise and resource you need. |
English language requirements
To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTs 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.
All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.
Scholarships and funding
Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

International Scholarship Scheme
We are offering 75 postgraduate scholarships worth £3,000. This will be offered as a discount in tuition fees. The scholarships are for one year only.
