Key facts

Country Visits

We visit Canada regularly to meet with prospective students, visit schools and offer personal consultations. If we are not able to meet with you on one of our visits then we are happy to offer advice over email and you can contact Andy, the country manager, with any questions you might have.

We have open days during the year on campus; if you would like to visit us on a different day please contact us with notice of your visit and we can arrange a meeting and campus tour.

When to Apply

Undergraduates can apply from 1 September onwards and should complete their applications by the middle of January. You do not need to have completed your high school education in order to apply. We may decide to make you a conditional offer in which we will make clear the level of performance we expect in your remaining examinations and assessments.

Masters candidates may apply from 31 October onwards. This includes students in the final year of their degree studies as we can offer a place on a conditional basis.

Students interested in a research degree may apply at any time and we can offer admission at various points throughout the year, altough most students will elect to commence their studies at the start of the academic year in October. Please feel free to contact us if you would like further guidance.

Careers

It is important to consider your career options when deciding where to study.

The University of Bath offers support and careers guidance to home and international students as well as assistance in finding part-time work:

Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Undergraduate degrees

A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB);

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and other internationally recognised qualifications. Details of the grades or points required can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.

Provincial high school qualifications

We are happy to consider applications from students taking any provincial high school qualifications for direct entry to our undergraduate degree programmes. Entry requirements vary according to the system you have studied and the degree you want to pursue here.  We generally base any offer of admission on a good level of performance across all subjects studied at high school. We often stipulate minimum scores or grades in certain key subjects; for example, a strong performance in Mathematics and Physics is essential for students seeking entry to Mechanical Engineering programmes.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Bachelors degree from a recognised university in Canada

Entry requirements for Masters degree candidates vary as we take into account a number of factors: your subject of study, grades achieved - both cumulative and in individual classes - and the institution where you obtained your degree.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification

A Masters level qualification from a recognised higher education institution in Canada will be required for MPhil/PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience, for example through a Masters degree project,  is expected. In addition to standard application papers, a research proposal is needed, outlining how you intend to conduct your research.

English language requirements

All students need to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to enroll, this may either be evidenced through school examinations, or as a result of undertaking an English language test, usually TOEFL or IELTS.

In most cases a specific test of English such as TOEFL will not be needed, although sometimes non-native English speaking foreign students who are studying in Canada may be asked to take the test and on occasion it is requested from students living in French-speaking areas of the country.

Research Degree Scholarships

For MPhil/PhD students, we provide full and partial research degree scholarships.  These are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for specific research topics while others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.

Chevening Scholarships

There are funding bodies in Canada who can provide financial aid to support postgraduate study in the UK. We advise any applicant seeking financial support to explore potential sources of aid available in their own country. The British Council have a number of awards on offer through the Chevening scheme.  Further details may be obtained from the British Council in Canada.
