The Chinese Student Society has been established for over 15 years with members from Hong Kong, Britain, Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. The society promotes Chinese culture in the University and provides help and support to Chinese students during their time here.
We usually visit Hong Kong twice a year. This often involves attending the Education UK exhibitions run by the British Council, as well as conducting interviews and presentations.
These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.
A Levels; International Baccalaureate (IB); Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE); Hong Kong A-levels |
We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, the HKDSE and the IB for direct entry onto our undergraduate programmes. Details of the grades or points required for A Levels and IB can be found in our undergraduate prospectus. Our general entry requirements for students with the HKDSE would be: level 4-5 in 3 elective subjects, plus 4-5* in Mathematics. The extended paper in Mathematics at level 5 may also be requested for subjects requiring a high level of Mathematics. Students with Hong Kong A Levels will also be considered and we are aware that grades do not always equate directly with UK A Levels. For Maths and Science subjects we may be able to consider the grade below as equivalent to our UK A Level requirements. |
Bachelors degree |
We will consider holders of a Bachelors degree for entry to a Masters degree. We normally look for the equivalent of a first or second class degree. If you have studied recently for your Bachelors degree in a university where the medium of instruction is English, we will not normally require you to meet additional conditions for English Language, such as an IELTS test. |
Masters level qualification from a prestigious university |
In many cases, we require a Masters level qualification from a prestigious university for PhD entry. We expect evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project). Before applying to us, it is worth identifying a potential supervisor in the department to ensure that we have the expertise and resource you need. |
To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTs 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.
We also accept the following in place of IELTS:
Hong Kong Examinations Authority Advanced Use of English - Grade C or above.
Hong Kong Certificate of Education English Language (Syllabus B) - Level 3 or above.
All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.

We are offering 75 masters scholarships worth £3,000 each. This will be offered as a discount in tuition fees. The scholarships are for one year only.

This is a specific scholarship for graduates from Hong Kong University. It is worth £3,000, and is awarded to a taught postgraduate applicant each year. It will be in the form of a discount in tuition fees; it is for one year only and cannot be deferred to a later year.
