Christie Leung, BSc Psychology

Having attended the open day in the beginning of year 13, I knew Bath was the place to be.

Why Bath?

Originally, I was most attracted to the prospect of a compulsory placement with my course (psychology) and as soon as I visited the campus, I knew I had made the right choice.

Having attended the open day in the beginning of year 13, I knew Bath was the place to be. I liked everything I saw that day and I could feel myself being there. It's the feeling "that's it, it's here, I'm coming here."

What’s best about studying at Bath?

I like the feeling of being with clever people! Everyone is very friendly and approachable, certainly different to the way we had it in schools. People might think the campus is rather small but in my view, it's compact and in the right size.

What I personally like best is living with friends which I will be able to continue in the future, too! Of course they are friends from all over the world! And in addition, the city itself is one of the most historical and beautiful in the country and is a pleasure to live in too.

What was the most significant challenge you encountered upon your entry in the British higher education system?

I have been studying in a British private school for a few years before going to Bath so with the guidance from teachers at my old school, the UCAS process was relatively easy for me. However I would think writing personal statement is the most challenging, though vital, part for applying universities.

What were your greatest worries when you first came to Bath?

In general, it was the fear of going to somewhere new without knowing anyone. However, that was not a problem at all when I met some new people literally on the first day and remained good friends with most of them. One piece I could give is that no one should be afraid to approach people in the beginning as everyone is experiencing the same as you!

Did you do a placement as part of your course?

I'll have it on my third year and I'm looking forward to that already!

Would you recommend the University to a friend?

I would, definitely, without any hesitation. Choosing a reputable university is important but it is also essential to look at the atmosphere. There are certainly more aspects to University life that studying.
