Student profile
Meghna Mathur, BBA Business Administration, from Gurgaon, Haryana
Why Bath?
I chose Bath mainly because it ranked highly in the university league tables, as I couldn’t visit the universities I applied. I also met some people from the International Office at a college fair at my school who I talked to about attending Bath.
Why the BBA?
I chose to do the BBA course as I enjoyed Business Studies at school and wanted to continue studying it. The course had scored really good rankings and it was the only course that offered two six month placements which I felt would allow me to get a good work experience and help me decide what I want to do after university.
“ The placements that are part of my course have been very useful as they have helped me decide what I would like to do in the future. ”
What's the best about Bath?
The lecturers are really good and make the course they’re teaching interesting. I also think that Bath has really good facilities like the library, sports centre and lots of societies for everyone to get involved in. Also I enjoy living in such a pretty, safe and friendly environment.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm going to graduate in 2010 and am thinking of studying for a postgraduate degree. I've really enjoyed studying at Bath and would like to continue to study. The placements that are part of my course have also been very useful as they have helped me decide what I would like to do in the future.
What were the greatest challenges you encountered?
When I first came to the UK I was worried that it would be difficult to settle down and make friends, I didn't have any idea of what Freshers Week would be like. These were resolved quite quickly as there were lots of events to meet people and everyone was very approachable so it wasn't really a problem at all. Academically, the greatest change from school was that you have to do a lot of work on your own without any supervision and as assessments are only done at the end of the semester rather than continuously.
Did you do a placement as part of your course?
I had to do two placements as part of my course. I did my first placement in an investment bank and my second placement in an accountancy firm. Both placements were really useful as they allowed me to first experience what life after university will be like, what expectations employers have and how to conduct yourself in a professional environment. They allowed me to learn what the two different careers would entail in terms of the kind of work and future prospects in each area. The placements have really helped me to decide what I want to do in the future and what would be the best steps to get there
