International Student Advice Service

Our international student advice team support all our international students during their studies. They have drop-in sessions or appointments on campus and have a number of useful services available:

  • pre-arrival advice and support
  • cultural and social orientation
  • advice and checking service for visa applications and extensions
  • general advice on invalid visas, refusals and appeals
  • welfare and support issues

Societies

During your studies it is important to feel involved with university life. You will find a range of societies here where you can meet people and participate in events and social occasions.

The University of Bath Kazakh Society (UBKS) represents the culture, customs, traditions and people of Kazakhstan. People who are interested in Kazakh culture and language are also an integral part of the society.

Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Foundation programmes

Kazakh Certificate of Secondary Education

The Kazakh Certificate of Secondary Education is not a sufficient qualification for direct entry onto one of our undergraduate programmes. You will need to undertake a bridging qualification in order to progress to undergraduate studies.

We offer a one year International Foundation Year, which is ideal preparation for entering our undergraduate programmes.

Undergraduate degrees

A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB)

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, European Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into our undergraduate courses. We require a minimum of three good A Levels or 32-38 points in the International Baccalaureate. Entry requirements will depend on your chosen course.

Students who have completed a foundation year, or one year of degree-level study at a recognised Kazakh university, with an average good/excellent (4.0/5.0) will also be considered for entry.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Bakalavr, Specialist Diploma or Magistr

We consider students who have completed the Bakalavr, Specialist Diploma or Magistr from an accredited higher education institution with a minimum average grade 4.0/5.0.

Entry requirements do vary from course to course so please check the postgraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification from a prestigious university

A masters level qualification from a prestigious university will in many cases be required for PhD entry.

Evidence of some research experience (for example through a masters degree project) is expected.

 

English language requirements

To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTs 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.

All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.

Scholarships and funding

Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

These are some of the scholarship and funding options available to students from your country:

Bolashak Scholarship

The University of Bath is an approved destination for Bolashak Scholars and we have welcomed many talented student through this scheme.

We attend the Bolashak Fair in the Autumn in Almaty and Astana to meet with prospective scholarship holders and advise them on our courses.

The British Council administers the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Bolashak Scholarship Scheme on behalf of the Center for International Programs at the Ministry of Education & Science.

International Scholarship Scheme

We have 75 scholarships available worth £3,000 each, for international students who are planning to take a postgradaute taught degree at Bath.

You must have already accepted an offer to study on one of our Masters programmes to be eligible to apply. The award is offered as a discount in tuition fees and is valid for one year only.

Sponsorship

A number of external funding bodies exist to support masters level study in the UK. Any applicant seeking support is strongly advised to explore potential sources of financial aid available in their own country.

There are international agencies, government departments, charitable organisations and private companies that may be able to provide financial aid for certain programmes of study, and are all worth exploring.

You can also approach the British Council in your country to find out if they have any funding available.

Research degree scholarships

For MPhil/PhD students we provide both full and partial research degree scholarships and these are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for certain research topics and others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.
