International Student Advice Service

Our international student advice team support all our international students during their studies. They have drop-in sessions or appointments on campus and have a number of useful services available:

  • pre-arrival advice and support
  • cultural and social orientation
  • advice and checking service for visa applications and extensions
  • general advice on invalid visas, refusals and appeals
  • welfare and support issues

Societies

During your studies it is important to feel involved with university life. You will find a wide range of socieites here where you can meet people and participate in cultural and sporting activities and social occassions.

  • The Scandinavian Society arranges lots of events ranging from sporting days to social outings which bring students together and promote Scandinavian culture.
  • AEGEE BATH, (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l’Europe / European Students’ Forum) is a student organisation that promotes co-operation, communication and integration amongst young people in Europe.

Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Undergraduate degrees

A Levels; International Baccalaureate (IB); Norwegian Vitnemål

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, European Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into our undergraduate programmes. We require a minimum of three good A Levels or 32-38 points in the International Baccalaureate. Entry requirements will depend on your chosen programme of study.

We welcome applications from students studying for the Norwegian Vitnemål, and our usual requirement is to gain an average of 5 overall. Depending on the programme you are applying for, you may also be asked to achieve specific scores in relevant subjects.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Undergraduate (Bachelor) degree

If you have an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree that is equivalent to a UK first or second class degree with honours, you will be considered for entry to a Masters degree.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification from a prestigious university

A Masters level qualification from a prestigious university will in many cases be required for PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project) is expected. Before applying to us it is worth identifying a potential supervisor in the department to ensure that we have the expertise and resource you need.

 

English language requirements

To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTs 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.

We also accept students studying the Vitnemal-vidergaende opplaering. A minimum of 5 in the English Language component is usually acceptable but programmes requiring 7.0 IELTS may wish to see further evidence of English language ability.

All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.

Scholarships and funding

Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

International Scholarship Scheme

We are offering 75 postgraduate scholarships worth £3,000. This will be offered as a discount in tuition fees. The scholarships are for one year only.
