Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Foundation course

Tawjihiyah

The Tawjihiyah (General Secondary Education Certificate) is not a sufficient qualification for direct entry onto one of our undergraduate programmes. If you have been through the Saudi school system you will need to undertake a bridging qualification.

We offer the one year International Foundation Year, which is ideal preparation for entering our undergraduate programmes.

Undergraduate programmes

A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB)

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and certain other internationally recognised qualifications for direct entry into undergraduate courses.

We regularly receive UCAS applications from candidates attending international schools in the region and whenever possible we try to visit these schools to meet with students who may be looking to study in the UK.

Details of entry requirements can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Bachelors degree from a recognised university in Saudi Arabia

Students with a bachelors degree from a recognised university in Saudi Arabia are welcome to apply for one of our masters degrees.

Holders of an Associate Degree or Undergraduate Diploma will not ordinarily be able to apply for one of our taught postgraduate courses and would instead need to consider some additional studies to raise the level of their qualification.

Details of the entry requirements for each of our postgraduate taught degrees are provided in the postgraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification

A masters level qualification will generally be required for MPhil/PhD entry.

Evidence of some research experience (for example through a masters degree that included a thesis component or work as a research assistant) is often expected.

In addition to the standard application papers, a research proposal is essential, outlining how you intend to go about your research.

English language requirements

Saudi students will need to take an English language test, unless they have recently studied in an English speaking country.

To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.

All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.

More information about English Language requirements.

Scholarships and funding

Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

These are some of the scholarship and funding options available to students from your country:

International Scholarship Scheme

We are offering 75 postgraduate taught scholarships worth £3,000 each. This will be offered as a discount in tuition fees. The scholarships are for one year only and are for masters students only.

More information about the International Scholarship Scheme.

Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarship Programme offers Saudi students funding for postgraduate taught courses within the UK. The British Council in Saudi is responsible for administering the scholarships.

More information and details of how to apply for Chevening Scholarships.

Sponsorship

A number of external funding bodies exist to support masters level study in the UK and we strongly advise any applicant seeking support to explore potential sources of financial aid available in your own country.

There are international agencies, government departments, charitable organisations and private companies that may be able to provide financial aid for certain programmes of study, and all are worth exploring.
