Entry requirements

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

Foundation programmes

Tawjihiyya

The Tawjihiyya is not a sufficient qualification for direct entry onto one of our undergraduate degree programmes. If you have been through the UAE school system you will need to undertake a bridging qualification in order to progress on to undergraduate studies.

We recommend our one year International Foundation Year, which is ideal preparation for entering our undergraduate programmes.

Undergraduate degrees

A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB)

We welcome applications from students taking A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and certain other internationally recognised qualifications for direct entry into undergraduate courses.

We regularly receive UCAS applications from candidates attending international schools in the Gulf and whenever possible we try to visit these schools to meet with students who may be looking to study in the UK.

Details of entry requirements can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Bachelors degree from a recognised university in the UAE

Holders of an undergraduate degree from a recognised university in the UAE are welcome to apply for one of our masters degrees.

We are not ordinarily able to consider applications for our taught postgraduate courses from students whose highest qualification is an Associate Degree or Undergraduate Diploma.

Entry requirements for masters degree candidates will vary so please check the postgraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate research degrees

Masters level qualification

If you are seeking admission to one of our research degrees (MPhil/PhD) then a masters level qualification will generally be requireds.

Evidence of some research experience (for example through a masters degree that included a thesis component or work as a research assistant) is often expected.

In addition to the standard application papers, a research proposal is essential, outlining how you intend to go about your research.

English language requirements

Emirati students will usually need to take an English language test, unless they have studied in the recent past in an English speaking country.

To study on the International Foundation Year you will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

The minimum English Language requirement for our undergraduate courses is IELTs 6.0 - 7.0 or an equivalent qualification.

All postgraduate taught applicants must meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre.

More information about English Language requirements.

Scholarships and funding

Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

These are some of the scholarship and funding options available to students from your country:

International Scholarship Scheme

We have 75 scholarships available worth £3,000 each, for international students who are planning to take a postgradaute taught degree at Bath.

You must have already accepted an offer to study on one of our Masters programmes to be eligible to apply. The award is offered as a discount in tuition fees and is valid for one year only.

More details of the International Scholarship Scheme.

Sponsorship

A number of external funding bodies exist to support masters level study in the UK. Any applicant seeking support is strongly advised to explore potential sources of financial aid available in their own country.

There are international agencies, government departments, charitable organisations and private companies that may be able to provide financial aid for certain programmes of study, and are all worth exploring.

You can also approach the British Council in your country to find out if they have any funding available.

Research Degree Scholarships

For MPhil/PhD students we provide both full and partial research degree scholarships and these are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for certain research topics and others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.
