Students intererested in research degrees (MPhil/PhD) may apply at any time and we can offer admission at various points throughout the year, although most students will elect to commence their studies when the academic year begins in early October.

These requirements will vary from subject to subject. You also need to look at course entry requirements in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.
A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB); various US qualifications |
We accept various combinations of US qualifications for entry onto our degree courses. Undergraduate study in the UK is typically more focused on a particular area (or major) than in the US.To secure admission, we often place an emphasis on key subjects, as well as requiring a good all-round academic record. A typical example of an admission offer will be based on a combination of your high school diploma, SAT1 and three APs, which serve to demonstrate a particular level of understanding of a few relevant subjects. The ACT may substitute for the SAT1 and SAT subject tests may be offered instead of APs. |
Bachelors degree from a recognised higher education institution |
Entry requirements for Masters degree candidates will vary as we take into account a number of factors, such as your subject of study, the grades achieved (both cumulative and in individual classes), and the institution at which you obtained your degree. |
Masters level qualification |
We usually expect evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree that included a thesis component or work as a research assistant). In addition to the standard application papers, a research proposal is essential, outlining how you intend to go about your research. |
All students need to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to enroll at the University of Bath. This may either be evidenced through school examinations, or as a result of undertaking an English language test, usually TOEFL or IELTS.
Prospective international students are eligible for a number of scholarships. Most of these are for postgraduate taught students. Departments may also offer specific scholarships for their students. Find out more about Scholarships and Bursaries.

For MPhil/PhD students we provide both full and partial research degree scholarships and these are awarded on a competitive basis. Some are designated for certain research topics and others are offered on a university-wide basis. You may indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship on the research degree programme application form.
The British Council may have awards on offer through the Chevening scheme and further details may be obtained from the British Council in the US. Alternatively, there are sources of loans and scholarship offered by a wide range of organizations in the US and we would encourage you to explore as many avenues as possible, if you are in need of financial aid.
Each year three Alumni Fund Scholarships worth the equivalent of $5500 are awarded to US graduates applying for masters courses. These scholarships are funded by American-based graduates of the University of Bath to assist candidates with strong academic ability.
