Welcome to SAS (Statistics Advisory Service)

Welcome to the statistics advisory service at MASH.

We are here to help with any statistical problems that you might have with any project work (e.g. final year projects, field study projects, research projects); from experimental design, to guidance on the correct statistical test and interpretation of results. We can also give help with statistical packages.

This service is available to ALL members of the university and for any type of project. We operate on an appointment based system; all appointments last 25 minutes and take place in the Skills Zone (6E2.8). A reminder e-mail will be sent one day prior to your appointment; the room will be confirmed in this e-mail.

Please note: this service is concerned with guiding and supporting learning and will not explicitly carry out statistical testing of data which forms part of any university assessments. If there are any units where there is a set examination or coursework rather than an individual or group project then you should seek help from MASH in the first instance.

The service operates an online booking system; at the time of booking, you will be asked to give a brief summary of your study and the type of help you are seeking. Please give any information that you think will be helpful in allowing our staff to prepare effectively for their session with you. The service is confidential; your details are kept for our records and monitoring purposes of the service.

If you are a distance student, on placement, part time staff or if due to caring commitments, medical appointments or similar you are not able to attend an appointment on campus on any Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning or afternoon the Statistics Advisory Service may be able to offer you an appointment at another time or a telephone or e-mail appointment. Please e-mail mash-sas@bath.ac.uk explaining the situation and a tutor will reply to you. Please note that this provision is unlikely to be available if you would be able to attend but appointments are fully booked. If appointments are fully booked and you are not sure what to do please drop in to a MASH general drop in where the tutor will advise on the most appropriate course of action.
