Conditional offer?

Choose the right pre-sessional English course at the University's English Language Centre.

You can use the Pre-sessional Course Report as proof of English language level to meet the conditions of your offer from the University of Bath.

English language skills

If you're an international student you may need to improve your English language skills before you come to university.

The best way to do this is by attending a pre-sessional course at the University's English Language Centre (ELC).

Our pre-sessional courses not only improve your language but also help you to develop all the academic communication skills you need for university study.

Our Academic English courses are accredited by BALEAP (British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes).

Pre-sessional English courses

Pre-sessional English courses are for students who have an offer to study at the University of Bath or another university.

Choose a pre-sessional course to:

  • improve your language level to meet the conditions of your offer
  • improve your academic English to prepare yourself for degree-level study.

The Pre-sessional Course Report can be used as proof of English language level to meet the conditions of your offer from the University of Bath.

In-sessional English classes

If you study at the University of Bath, you can choose from a range of free in-sessional English classes provided by the ELC to support you in your studies and improve your English.

We offer a range of units for undergraduates including:

  • Academic Writing for Undergraduates
  • Critical Reading
  • Formal Academic Spoken English (giving presentations)
  • Seminar Skills and Informal Spoken English
  • English for Business
  • Cambridge English Examination classes

Most classes take place on Wednesday afternoons, but other times are available, generally early evenings.
