Placements and study abroad
All our departments offer courses that include the option of a placement, and some include a professional placement as an integral part of the course.
Work placements do not have to be in the UK, our placement teams can advise you about working abroad during your placement.
We also offer exchange opportunities with many of our undergraduate programmes including those as part of the Erasmus programme.
Our students are highly valued by graduate employers due to the experience they gain during placement or study abroad periods.
Thick sandwich
A thick sandwich placement means you are away continuously from campus for at least one academic year.
Depending on the type of placement/study abroad you undertake the fee will vary as below:

Mixed thick sandwich
A mixed thick sandwich allows you to undertake a different activity during each semester. You will pay a fee for the whole year:

| Total fee | £1,575 |
Thin sandwich
Thin sandwich includes one semester of placement or study/work abroad and the other semester as on-campus study at Bath.
These fees only apply to the following programmes:
- BSc Business Administration (years 2 and 3)
- BSc Architecture (years 2 and 3)
- MArch Architecture (year 1).
The fees for the year will depend on what you do each semester:
