Fee waivers and bursaries

This information is for students entering in 2013. You can also view information for 2012 entrants.
You do not need to apply for our fee waivers or bursaries.
We will identify eligible students through information we receive from UCAS and Student Finance England, or other UK awarding authority.
We will contact you when we require further information. Please email us if you have any questions.

Fee waivers
We offer two fee waiver schemes to UK and EU students** who meet the eligibility criteria:
- University of Bath fee waivers - funded by the University
- National Scholarship Programme fee waivers - funded in partnership by the Government and the University.
You can only receive one of these fee waivers, both offer the same fee waiver amounts. Eligible students will receive:
- a fee waiver of £3,000 in Years 1 and 2*
- a full fee waiver during placement or study abroad periods
Eligibility criteria
You need to:
- be an eligible** UK or EU student and
- be registered on a full-time campus-based undergraduate or foundation degree programmes and
- have a household income assessment of £16,000 or below (this will rise to £20,000 for 2014 entrants) and
meet one or more of the following criteria:
- your home is in a neighbourhood with low participation in higher education
- your school/college performance is below average (as supplied by UCAS)
- you are a care leaver
- you or your family receive a state means-tested benefit
- you have completed the Access to HE Diploma.
The National Scholarship Programme fee waivers are awarded to students who meet the eligibility criteria and have the best qualifications.
*For Year 2 and 3 of your thin sandwich course the fee waiver will be pro rata across these years.
**Eligible UK or EU students are those that are classed as UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland) or EU (European), as assessed for student support purposes, as determined by Student Finance England or other relevant UK student loans awarding agency.
University of Bath bursaries
These are available to UK students only. They are designed to help you with course costs or other living expenses and will be paid in instalments.
If you are eligible you will receive:
- a £3,000 bursary in Years 1 and 2*
- a £1,000 bursary in your final and/or any additional years of study (except for placement years)
- a £1,500 bursary during a full year** placement (unpaid placement or study abroad only)
Eligibility
You need to:
- be an eligible** UK student and
- be registered on a full-time campus-based undergraduate or foundation degree programmes and
- have a household income assessment of £16,000 or below (this will rise to £20,000 for 2014 entrants) and
meet one or more of the following criteria:
- your home is in a neighbourhood with low participation in higher education
- your school/college performance is below average (as supplied by UCAS)
- you are a care leaver
- you or your family receive a state means-tested benefit
- you have completed the Access to HE Diploma.
Bursaries for the Foundation Degree in Addictions Counselling
If you are eligible you will receive:
- a £3,000 bursary in Year 1 and 2
You need to:
- be an eligible** UK student and
- be registered on our full-time non campus-based Foundation Degree in Addictions Counselling and
- have a household income assessment of £16,000 or below (this will rise to £20,000 for 2014 entrants)
Bursaries for the Honours year top up degree (franchised non-campus based)
If you are eligible you will receive:
- a £1,000 bursary (pro rata for part-time)
You need to:
- be an eligible** UK student and
- be registered on a full or part-time non campus-based honours year top up degree programme and
- paying the higher rate tuition fees and
- have a household income assessment of £16,000 or below
*For Year 2 and 3 of your thin sandwich course the fee waiver will be pro rata across these years.
**Eligible UK students are those that are classed as UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland), as assessed for student support purposes, as determined by Student Finance England or other relevant UK student loans awarding agency.
State means-tested benefit eligibility criteria
The list of means-tested benefits listed below refers to the eligibility criteria for fee waivers and bursaries. To meet this you or your parent(s)/guardians(s), at the time of assessment and/or study, must be receiving one of the following:
- Child Tax Credit (any element)
- Working Tax Credit (any element)
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disability Living Allowance (not for a sibling)
- Income support /Income based job seekers allowance
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
- other qualifying European Union welfare benefit
You do not need to tell us about this now, we will ask you to provide information on this via the Bath Application Tracker in due course.
