A Levels
Typical Offer: AAA
In exceptional circumstances we may make you a slightly lower offer.
AS levels are not normally included in an offer.
Essential:
- Mathematics and Chemistry are required at A2
- General Studies and languages where you are a native speaker of that language are not normally included in the offer
- GCSE minimum grade C in English language or equivalent.

Access to HE Diploma
We welcome applications from students studying Access to HE Diplomas in Science or Engineering. All applications will be considered on an individual basis but applicants would generally be expected to have distinctions in Level 3 maths and chemistry units. As these courses vary greatly across the country, we encourage you to contact Admissions to discuss course requirements and appropriate units of study before applying through UCAS. You will need to pass GCSE Equivalence English, if you do not already hold an equivalent qualification.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a high academic standard and may be invited to attend an interview.
BTEC
Applicants studying BTEC Level 3 qualifications in science subjects are encouraged to contact Admissions to discuss course requirements and appropriate units of study before applying through UCAS. You will generally be expected to be studying A Level Mathematics in addition to your BTEC qualification.
Essential: GCSE: Double Science or Physics and Biology, plus English at minimum grade C, or equivalent.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a high academic standard and may be invited to attend an interview.
Cambridge Pre-U
Typical Offer: D3, D3, D3 including Maths and Chemistry
Diplomas
The only acceptable line of learning is Engineering. This must be combined with Additional/Specialist qualifications in Maths and Chemistry A-levels, at least one of which must be at grade A.
Essential
GCSE: Double Science or Physics and Biology are required.
European Baccalaureate
Typical offer:
MEng: 80% overall required with 80% in Mathematics and the Chemistry option. Applicants should be taking 5 periods of Mathematics plus the Advanced Mathematics unit, giving a total of 8 periods. Students taking the EB in English will not normally need an additional English Language qualification. If you are not taking the EB in English, a mark of 75% in English as a foreign language (either L2/L2A) will be accepted in place of an additional English Language qualification, such as IELTS or TOEFL (see English language requirements below).
International Baccalaureate
Typical offer:
36 points overall, including 6 points in both Mathematics and Chemistry at Higher Level.
International Students

English Language Qualifications:
We normally require all applicants whose first language is not English to provide evidence of English language proficiency and we may ask you to take an English language test.
The minimum requirement for Chemical Engineering programmes is: IELTS 6.5 with no mark less than 6.0 in any of the elements. Applicants should submit their results by 31st July. Irish Leaving Certificate
Typical Offer:
AAABBB at higher level which must include A in both Mathematics and Chemistry.
Scottish Highers
Typical offer:
AAABB to include 2 Advanced Highers at AA in Mathematics and Chemistry; the remaining ABB Highers need to be in three other subjects. Languages, which are intended for non-native speakers, are not normally acceptable when taken by native speakers of that language.
Welsh Baccalaureate
Grades AAA to include Chemistry and Mathematics at GCE A-Level OR AAB to include an A in Chemistry and Mathematics AND a Pass in the Welsh Baccalaureate Core
