Entry requirements

A Levels

Typical Offer: A2: ABB

  • in exceptional circumstances we may make a slightly lower offer.

Essential: 

  • at least 5 GCSE passes at grade C and above, which must include Mathematics, English and a science
  • General Studies is excluded
  • languages which are intended for non-native speakers are not normally acceptable when taken by native speakers of that language
  • although we do not specify any particular A level subjects or combinations we expect at least one of your subjects to include academic essay writing as part of the assessment.

Access to HE Diploma

We welcome applications from Access to HE Diploma students. Although we do not specify any particular subjects or units, we expect at least one of your subjects to include academic essay writing as part of the assessment. Social sciences units, such as psychology, sociology, social policy, and education, provide excellent preparation for this programme.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a high academic standard and may be asked attend an interview and submit a piece of written work for consideration.

Typical offer:

Pass an Access to HE Diploma, with at least 30 credits achieved at Distinction and 9 credits achieved at Merit or Distinction. This must include at least 9 credits achieved at Distinction in an essay-based subject. Applicants must also achieve GCSE equivalences in English and maths, if equivalent qualifications have not already been achieved.

Advanced Diplomas

Will consider Advanced Diplomas where combined with the Additional and Specialist Learning outlined below.

Advanced Diploma at grade A/B with grade B in the Principal Learning and grade A in the Extended Project.

The Extended Project should be a piece of written work such as a piece of applied research.

Required Additional and Specialist Learning:

A level: grade A

National Award: Distinction with distinction in all units

Preferred subjects: Social Sciences/Humanities

Other subjects will be considered on an individual basis.

Level 2 requirement:

We would normally look for five grade A* - C passes at GCSE, (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) including English & Maths

BTEC

Typical Offer:  An appropriate BTEC qualification with a Distinction profile (DDD)

Essential

At least 5 GCSE passes at grade C and above, which must include Mathematics, English and a science

Applicants may also be asked to submit one piece of written work for consideration.

Cambridge Pre-U

Typical Offer: M1, M2, M2

Essential:

  • Although we do not specify any particular subjects or combinations we expect at least one of your Principal Subjects to include academic essay writing as part of the assessment.

European Baccalaureate

Typical Offer: 75%

International Baccalaureate

Typical Offer: 35 points

International Students

English Language Qualifications:

We would normally require all applicants whose first language is not English to provide evidence of English language proficiency and we may ask you to take an English language test.

The minimum requirement for Childhood, Youth Studies & Education Studies is IELTS 7.0 with no mark less than 6.5 in any of the elements.
