Admissions process
Admissions statement
All applications for our Undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK's central applications service, UCAS. You apply online completing just one application for up to five courses. Guidance on how to apply is available from your school, college, Directgov Young People or local British Council Office.
Once you have sent your application to UCAS, the form will be considered by the Economics admissions team. Each application is given individual consideration, paying particular attention to the subjects studied, the reference and personal statement. The decision will be based on a number of factors, including academic achievement, and potential, your skills and aptitudes and your motivation and commitment.
Applications received before the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2012 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after this date are unlikely to be considered. A decision will be made on whether to make you an offer as soon as possible but in some cases your application may be held until after the 15 January so that it can be considered alongside other applications received before the deadline. You will be notified by UCAS as soon as a decision has been made and we will let you know if your application is being held.
Deferred entry
Students who are considering taking a gap year before they start university are encouraged to apply. They should do so during the year they are taking their post-16 qualifications, obtaining a UCAS form relevant to the year they wish to start university.
See also general information on deferred entry.
Open Days
Candidates who are made an offer will be invited to attend one of the departments' open days. For students who are in their first year of post-16 study, you are recommended to attend one of the University's Open Days.
Alternatively, for those students who cannot make either of the above events, it may be possible to arrange a separate visit.
Interviews
In normal circumstances, applicants will not be required to attend an interview.
Selection tests
In normal circumstances, applicants will not be required to sit additional selection tests.
