International Management and Modern Languages

Placements and careers

Placements

All students on this programme spend their third year abroad, either studying in one of our partner business schools, working in an international business environment on placement or combining both. The year abroad is a demanding and rewarding experience, allowing you to build your language fluency, apply the management theory you have learnt in the classroom, and learn more about a different country and culture.

Placement only route

If you opt for the placement-only route, you will spend a minimum of nine months working in a company, although most students choose to stay on longer to maximise their business experience and language competence.

We work with a wide range of prestigious organisations, many of whom regularly recruit our IMML graduates. The type of work offered to placement students is diverse ranging from marketing and public relations through to finance, banking and computing.  Our current IMML placement providers include:

  • Deutsche Bank – Madrid
  • HSBC  -  Paris, Santiago de Chile and Mexico
  • KPMG - Luxembourg, Madrid, Frankfurt, Bonn, Düsseldorf
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers - Frankfurt, Vienna, Chile
  • Vodafone – Madrid

Study Abroad only route

Alternatively you can choose to spend a full academic year at one of our partner business schools in either France, Spain, Germany, Latin America or Canada.

Combined route

Combine both options and enjoy two very different experiences during your third year. Spend one semester at a partner business school then go on to a work placement of four to six months. This option gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the culture and the language of the country before having to cope with the demands of a day-to-day job.

While you will be supported by a dedicated Placement team, we cannot guarantee that a particular placement will be available or that you will be able to earn a particular salary. Applications for placements can be very competitive, and you must satisfy the requirements of each employer's selection process.

Careers

As an IMML graduate, you will enjoy a distinct advantage in the marketplace thanks to the range of skills you will hold and the commercial credibility you will have gained during your year abroad. Statistics show that 72% of our students are in full-time employment after graduation compared to the national average for Business and Language courses of 63%.

The IMML degree is held in high regard by many of the top graduate employers. Consequently our graduates enter a wide variety of professions including:

  • Business and financial analysis
  • Marketing
  • Management consulting
  • Retail and human resources
