Access to Higher Education Diploma
Our mechanical engineering programmes are academically challenging and require solid foundations of knowledge in mathematics and physics. We will consider the applications of students who have studied Access to HE Diplomas in science or engineering, whose applications indicate that they have studied a suitable level of mathematics and physics to be able to succeed on our programmes. You will need to have studied mathematics units worth at least 12 credits, including the study of calculus, and physics units worth at least 12 credits. However, due to the time-limited nature of Access programme delivery, it is expected that you will have also completed a significant level of independent study in order to further develop and refine these skills.
If your application indicates that you may be suitable for our programmes, you will be invited to attend an interview at the university. During this interview, you will be asked about your motivation to study a mechanical engineering programme at Bath, and you will be asked to work through a variety of programme-relevant mathematics and physics problems. Applicants who are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge will be considered for an offer for a place at Bath.
Typical offer:
Pass the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Engineering), with at least 39 credits achieved from units awarded at Distinction. This must include 12 credits from mathematics units (including Calculus) awarded at Distinction and 12 credits from physics units awarded at Distinction. Applicants must also achieve GCSE equivalence in English, if equivalent qualifications have not already been achieved.
BTEC
We will consider BTEC qualifications in Engineering (excluding Vehicle Repair and Technology), Applied Science and Construction. These must be combined with A level Mathematics at grade A*.
Typical Offer:Extended Diploma, DDD with full distinction profile and an additional A level Mathematics at grade A* plus GCSE English grade C or equivalent.
Cambridge Pre-U
Typical Offer: D2, D3, D3
