Admissions process
Admissions statement
All applications for our Undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK's central applications service, UCAS. You apply online completing just one application for up to five courses. Guidance on how to apply is available from your school, college, Directgov Young People or local British Council Office.
Once you have sent your application to UCAS, the form will be considered by the POLIS admissions team. Each application is given individual consideration, paying particular attention to the subjects studied, the reference and personal statement. The decision will be based on a number of factors, including academic achievement, and potential, your skills and aptitudes and your motivation and commitment.
Applications received before the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2012 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after this date are unlikely to be considered. A decision will be made on whether to make you an offer as soon as possible but in some cases your application may be held until after the 15 January so that it can be considered alongside other applications received before the deadline. You will be notified by UCAS as soon as a decision has been made and we will let you know if your application is being held.
Deferred entry
We look positively upon a gap year, provided the year is spent constructively. We are happy to defer entry for students looking to take part in voluntary or paid work experience and/or travel. We find students benefit from increased maturity and have a better idea of what they want to do at university after a 'year out'. If you wish to defer your place you may use your personal statement to explain your reasons why and your plans. Do not worry if you are unsure - there is still plenty of time to decide and we impose no time deadline on students wishing to defer.

Open Days
In addition to the summer events organised by the University, Departmental UCAS events are usually held in December, February and March.
