Admissions process

Admissions statement

All applications for our Undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK's central applications service, UCAS. You apply online completing just one application for up to five courses. Guidance on how to apply is available from your school, college, Directgov Young People or local British Council Office.

Once you have sent your application to UCAS, the form will be considered by the Social Sciences Admissions team. Each application is given individual consideration, paying particular attention to the subjects studied, the reference and personal statement. The decision will be based on a number of factors, including academic achievement, and potential, your skills and aptitudes and your motivation and commitment.

Applications received before the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2012 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after this date are unlikely to be considered. A decision will be made on whether to make you an offer as soon as possible but in some cases your application may be held until after the 15 January so that it can be considered alongside other applications received before the deadline. You will be notified by UCAS as soon as a decision has been made and we will let you know if your application is being held.

Deferred entry

Gap years are viewed positively by the Department and we are happy to consider applicants who are asking for deferred entry.

See also general information on deferred entry.

Open Days

All applicants made offers are invited to attend a departmental open day.

See also general information on Open Days.

Interviews

Generally applicants are not interviewed, but if you are offering unusual qualifications or it is some time since you have studied you may be invited for an interview before a decision is made.

Selection tests

We do not have any standard additional tests, however in some circumstances we ask applicants to submit written work either before an offer is made or at interview.
