Social Work and Applied Social Studies
Admissions process
Admissions statement
All applications for our Undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK's central applications service, UCAS. You apply online completing just one application for up to five courses. Guidance on how to apply is available from your school, college, Directgov Young People or local British Council Office.
Once you have sent your application to UCAS, the form will be considered by our admissions team. An initial assessment is made of your application where particular attention is paid to the subjects studied, the reference and your personal statement. If your application passes this initial assessment you will be invited to an interview (see interview section below).
Applications received before the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2012 will be given equal consideration. Applications received after this date will be considered if places are still available. A decision will be made on whether to invite you for an interview will be made as soon as possible. You will be notified by UCAS and by the Department as soon as a decision has been made and we will let you know if your application is being held.
Deferred entry
Gap years are viewed positively by the Department but we are unable to consider applications for deferred entry as all applicants have to be interviewed in the year in which they wish to start. See also general information on deferred entry.
Interviews
Selection is by means of interview. If you are invited to attend an interview you will be provided with guidance notes in advance so that you may come fully prepared. Interviews normally take place between January and April and are conducted by a member of the academic staff with a social work practitioner, service user or carer from a partner organisation.
Selection tests
See interview section.
