Subject aims

This programme will provide you with:

  • the knowledge, skills and understanding of values, to equip you for a career in professional Social Work
  • competence in applying your practical skills and theoretical knowledge to professional Social Work
  • research skills with particular reference to those skills relating to investigation, assessment and analysis
  • critical, analytical problem-based learning skills and transferable skills to prepare you for professional Social Work or further study
  • interpersonal skills.

Teaching and learning

Lectures, tutor-led seminars and tutorials, lectures and workshops facilitated by external lecturers with specialist knowledge and skills, student-led seminars, IT practical sessions, practical workshops, problem-based learning scenarios and practice placements.

Methods of assessment

Written unseen examinations, coursework, collaborative project reports, practical presentations, placement assessment reports, critical reflective essays.
