Sociology and Social Policy

Entry requirements

A Levels

Typical Offer: AAB-BBB

Essential:

  • GCSE English is required at grade C or above and Mathematics is preferred at grade C or above.
  • languages which are intended for non-native speakers are not normally acceptable when taken by native speakers of that language.

Access to HE Diploma

Typical Offer:

Pass an Access to HE Diploma, with at least 30 credits achieved at Distinction and 9 credits achieved at Merit or Distinction. This must include at least 9 credits achieved at Distinction in an essay-based subject. Applicants must also achieve GCSE equivalence in English, if an equivalent qualification has not already been achieved.

BTEC

Typical Offer: DDD

Essential

  • GCSE English is required at grade C or above.

Diplomas

We will consider Advanced Diplomas at grade B where combined with the Additional and Specialist Learning below.

Principal Learning: grade B

Extended Project: grade B

Required Additional and Specialist Learning

Advanced Diploma in Society, Health and Development: any subject at A level grade B or BTEC Subsiduary Diploma at Distinction

Other Advanced Diplomas: a humanities A level grade B for example

All first 10 lines of learning considered except for Hair and Beauty Studies.

The Extended Project should be a piece of written work such as a piece of applied research.

International Baccalaureate

Typical Offer: 32-35 points including 5,5,5 at HL

English Language Qualifications:

We would normally require all applicants whose first language is not English to provide evidence of English language proficiency and we may ask you to take an English language test.
The minimum requirement for  Social and Policy Sciences is: IELTS 6.5 with no subject less than 6.0. Applicants should submit their results by 31st July. For a list of other English language qualifications we accept please go to the English Language Entry Requirements web page.

Irish Leaving Certificate

Typical Offer: AAABBB-ABBBBB all at Higher level.

Scottish Highers

Typical Offer: AAABB-ABBBB to included 2 Advanced Highers at AA-AB
