Personal Statement:
The personal statement is important in demonstrating your motivation for applying to the programme. You may wish to use the following pointers:
- know what you want - not all sports courses are the same
- Sports Science versus Social Science of Sport
- why Sport & Social Sciences? Be specific
- what do you want to do in the future?
- why do you have a passion for sport?
- do you have any vocational qualifications?
- have you been involved in any other related activities that you think would be relevant to your application? (Volunteering, hobbies etc).
Contextual Information:
- Include any evidence of any activities that demonstrate initiative, particularly those that are voluntary. For instance, if you are an elite athlete competing at international level or have any other extra-curricular activities.
A Levels
Typical Offer: A2: AAB
- in exceptional circumstances we may make a slightly lower offer.
Essential:
- In addition to the above, we would normally look for five grade A* - C passes at GCSE, (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) including English & Maths
- General Studies is excluded
- Languages which are intended for non-native speakers are not normally acceptable when taken by native speakers of that language
Access to HE Diploma
Each application is treated on its merits, but as a guide we would expect a student to pass the Access to HE Diploma, with at least 39 credits achieved from units awarded at Merit or Distinction, including at least 33 credits achieved from units awarded at Distinction. Applicants must also achieve GCSE equivalence in English and maths, if equivalent qualifications have not already been achieved.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a high academic standard and may be invited to submit an additional piece of writing for consideration by the Admissions Tutor.
BTEC
Typical Offer: BTEC Extended Diploma in a related discipline with a Distinction profile (DDD).
Essential level 2 requirement:
In addition to the above, we would normally look for five grade A* - C passes at GCSE, (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) including English and Mathematics.
Cambridge Pre-U
Typical Offer: D3, D3, M2
Diplomas
Will consider Advanced Diplomas where combined with the Additional and Specialist Learning outlined below.
Advanced Diploma at grade A/B with grade B in the Principal Learning and grade A in the Extended Project.
The Extended Project should be a piece of written work such as a piece of applied research.
Required Additional and Specialist Learning:
A level: grade A
National Award: Distinction with distinction in all units
Preferred subjects: PE/Sport/Sociology/Psychology/Media Studies/Politics/Science
Other subjects will be considered on an individual basis.
Level 2 requirement:
We would normally look for five grade A* - C passes at GCSE, (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) including English & Maths
European Baccalaureate
Typical Offer: 77%
International Baccalaureate
Typical Offer: 35+ points
International Students

English Language Qualifications:
We would normally require all applicants whose first language is not English to provide evidence of English language proficiency and we may ask you to take an English language test.
The minimum requirement for Coach Education and Sports Development is IELTS 6.5 with no subject less than 6.0. Applicants should submit their results by 31st July. For a list of other English language qualifications we accept please go to the English Language Entry Requirements web page.

Typical Offer: AAABB at Higher level to include AA at Advanced Higher level
Welsh Baccalaureate
