This site gives information about many methods of travelling to and from campus. It includes local and national travel, university loan schemes and help for those who cycle, walk or use public transport instead of driving. Information for those travelling to the University
'Travel Actively is a portfolio of 50 projects being delivered by Active Travel Consortium: a partnership of leading walking, cycling and health organisations committed to providing opportunities for 1.8 million people to become more physically active through active travel by 2012. Since 2008, Travel Actively projects have provided opportunities for over 1.5 million people to become physically active through daily travel choices and have generated a body of evidence showing how regular active travel can positively impact on health and well-being.' The university received the award for implementing an 'effective range of commuting and business travel planning measures demonstrating a consistent trend away from single occupancy vehicle use, and towards more active and sustainable travel modes'. The University's updated Travel Plan is now available; see the links on the right handside of this page. Travel Survey 2010-11A report on the findings of the travel survey for staff and students is available to read by following the link on the right hand side of this page. Results from the survey will be used to support our resubmission of the University Masterplan, which describes how we plan to develop the University in the future and what improvements could be made. All information will be stored according to the Data Protection Act of 1998. Designed in partnership between the Department of Estates and the Department of Psychology, the survey included an optional section that explored the psychology behind travel, which will be used in a PhD research project. Pedestrian Access Scheme - RIBA Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF) As part of the East Building works, the Arrivals Square was 'substantially enhanced', improving conditions for both buses and passengers. The pedestrian footbridge has provided direct access to the new Student Centre and traffic-free through routes are now available to pedestrians. Accessibility has improved for those with disabilities. These measures received recognition in a recent RIBA competition entitled 'SMall Budget, Big Impact'.
