New, additional No 20 bus service

From Monday 21 March 2011 there will be an additional 20 service in both the morning and afternoon to ease the pressure of University staff/students and Ralph Allen School pupils using the same buses at peak times.

The new service will be the 20R and although not registered to call at the University, the service will run between Ralph Allen School and Mount Road along the same route as the 20A/C, but thereafter diverts via The Hollow and Oldfield Park.

Students should be advised not to catch it in the morning because it does not come direct to the University but if they do use the service, they should get off at Ralph Allen School and wait for the following bus.

Timetabling information will follow as soon as B&NES publish the schedule.

New University Bus service

Wessex Connect are due to take over the running of the 20A/C
route on 11th May after First Bus announced that they will no
longer run the service.

A new U18 bus service will also be run in conjunction with the
20 A/C by Wessex Connect. The new route will run from the
University campus through to the Oldfield Park lower loop. The
U18 will run from 06:55 to 20:30 Monday to Friday and is
planned to be timetabled in 10 minute intervals, along with a
reduced service at weekends.

The new U18 service will run in parallel with the existing
18/418 service already being provided by First Bus. It is hoped
that the new U18 service will prove to be a successful addition
to the University bus provision.

Bath & North East Somerset Council has come to an agreement with First on the acceptance of existing season tickets on the new 20A/C services to be operated by Wessex Connect from 11 May.

Season ticket holders will be able to use valid First season tickets on the new 20A/C up to the 27th June 2009.

In addition to this the 20A/C will have a range of good value season tickets available. Day tickets and weekly tickets will be available on-bus and will all be valid on the U18 services as well as the 20A/C. A range of longer period tickets will also be available that will be valid on both the 20A/C and U18 services.

The University and the Students' Union are incredibly pleased that this agreement has been reached and will continue to work with First, B&NES and Wessex Connect to improve transport provisions and minimse any distruption for students.
