Welcome to the Office of the University Secretary
The University Secretary is responsible for the Legal and Secretariat functions of the University. He is also Secretary to the University Council and a member of the University's senior management team providing expert advice to members of Council, overseeing compliance with relevant legislation, University policies and governance structures. He Chairs the Equalities and Diversity Committee and the Health and safety Committee. He is the University Safeguarding Officer and is responsible for Business Continuity.
The University Secretary’s Office comprises the University Secretary’s personal office, the Secretariat, the University Legal Advisers, and the Equalities and Diversity Unit.
The Secretariat is responsible for the provision of administrative support for governance of the University, including the University’s statutory bodies and committees.
The Legal Advisers provide advice and assistance to the University and its staff on agreements (not research contracts); data protection, freedom of information and copyright issues; the interpretation and implementation of statutory requirements; and a variety of other legal matters.
The Equalities and Diversity Unit provides equalities and diversity advice to the University. It is responsible for the Equalities Schemes, equalities monitoring and events across the University and more widely to promote equality and diversity. The Equalities and Diversity Manager is responsible for the Mediation Service.
