UKBA Compliance
Students who need immigration permission to enter the UK will need a visa which enables them to study here. The major route into the UK for full time students is the Tier 4 General Student route, where students are sponsored by the institution at which they will study.
The University of Bath is your Tier 4 Sponsor and we have been granted Highly Trusted Sponsor status by the UK Border Agency (UKBA)
As your Tier 4 sponsor, it is OUR responsibility:
- to check that you have a valid visa and passport and to keep updated records of all your personal details
- to monitor your attendance, progress and engagement with your programme of studies
- to inform the UKBA of any relevant changes
- to ensure that you meet the UKBA requirements (please see our CAS issuing policy) and to take appropriate action should you not meet the necessary requirements to study here (for example, if your visa application is refused).
It is YOUR responsibility as a Tier 4 student to:
- Ensure that you have a valid visa at all times in order to study here and show evidence of your passport and visa as required
- Attend and engage with your programme of study. If you need to be absent for more than 14 days or longer you must apply for authorised absence
- Tell us of any changes to your studies and / or any personal circumstances if they affect your ability to study.
- Ensure that your passport, visa and personal data (including contact address) is always up to date on university records
- Seek support if you are having problems with your academic studies or if you need advice about your visa or any other matters
It is important that you are aware of the severe consequences of not complying with your responsibilities as a Tier 4 General Student:
- You may need to withdraw from your course which will mean that you need to leave the UK
- You may need to leave the UK temporarily to obtain valid immigration permission
