Work and Employment Research Centre

The Work and Employment Research Centre (WERC) has internationally recognised expertise in human resource management and organization studies. A central characteristic is its focus on the study of these issues in Professional Services Organizations. The Centre provides strong links between practitioners and academics, and between research activities and teaching at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels.

Its mission is to demonstrate the value of rigorous, well-founded research to practitioners; to diffuse research insights in a way that is helpful to practitioners and researchers alike; to encourage applied research on issues of central importance; and to seek to develop the resources required to maintain a critical mass of researchers and research students.
The Centre is directed by Professor Juani Swart and currently has members drawn from the full-time academic staff of the School of Management.

It appoints a Visiting Fellow drawn from among senior policy makers, and provides opportunities for a select number of international scholars to work in the Centre for a few months at a time.
