Managing Knowledge in Professional Service Firms (2004-2006)

This research is sponsored by the CIPD and is being conducted jointly by a team from WERC and researchers at the Centre for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CaHRS) based in Cornell University in the United States lead by Professor Scott Snell.

The project focuses on how professional services firms (PSFs) convert the knowledge, skills and experience of their employees into products and services which have value in the marketplace.  In particular, it looks at the ways in which different forms of capital (human, social, structural, organisational, client and network) combine together and the role that people management policies and process can play in this conversion. The key focus is on the stocks and flows of knowledge. The project comprises four different kinds of PSFs: creative organisations, software and consulting and law firms. (2004-6)
