Neville Cardus, Full Score.

Cardus was the cricket and music correspondent of the Manchester Guardian for many years: it was not always apparent from his reports which rôle he was playing at any given time, but he was a better writer than most journalists and got away with it. This is from a vaguely autobiographical ramble, nothing to do with the Guardian, and the passage in question describes something of his feelings about the period he spent in Sydney in the 1940s.
