Snow and ice are forecast for this week. This is currently a yellow warning and we are planning for campus and University buildings to be operating as usual. However, we are monitoring the situation and will update you further if the forecast worsens.

In the event of any changes to campus operations, we will post updates in the following places:

If we do need to restrict activity on campus and in University buildings, we will let you know. In the meantime, you can read the University’s policy on staff attendance during adverse weather conditions. If you think you may need to work away from campus and University buildings, you can prepare to access University systems and applications with your own device.

In the event of snow and sleet, many surfaces, including stairways, will be wet and slippery. Our Campus Services team will be making every effort to grit and prepare surfaces, but please take care when travelling to and walking around campus. Health and Safety advice is:

  • Walk – don’t run. Wear non-slip footwear. Allow more time for your journey, just as you would if driving.

  • Try to leave hands free to aid balance and protect against falls.

  • Stick to footpaths and avoid steep banks and inclines.

  • Take extra care when walking, cycling or driving up and down hills.

  • On no account attempt to walk on areas of frozen water, including the lake, which is extremely hazardous.
