This year University of Bath residences are taking part in Student Switch Off - the sustainability campaign between the halls. Student Switch Off encourages a more sustainable life whilst at university through regular competitions, webinars and learning opportunities.

Twice a year Student Switch Off launch their national online Climate Quiz and this term Quads Chestnut placed 4th in the national quiz winning 50 tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream including vegan flavours!

Jade Monroe, Senior Project Manager for Student Switch Off, commented “I am extremely pleased to be able to reward Quads C with the prize this term, it is a fantastic achievement that so many residents are demonstrating commitment to sustainability by getting involved in the campaign”.

Peter Phelps, the University’s Energy & Environment Manager, said “We’ve been running this award-winning campaign for several years, as a collaborative effort across Estates, AHS and the SU, and regularly get some of the best results across all the Unis involved. It’s great to see our students getting involved more than ever, and hopefully taking this awareness and good practice forward when they pay their own bills”.

Student Switch Off is a sustainability campaign ran by SOS-UK, the National Union of Students sustainability charity. Universities across the UK and Europe take part in the competition and last year halls at Bath saved over 64,000 kWh of electricity through the campaign, which is enough energy to boil the kettle for over 2 million cups of tea.

There are lots of things you can do to be sustainable in residences this year, see Student Switch Off’s advice pages for more information, see how your hall is doing in the campaign leaderboard and follow the campaign on social media.
