On Monday 2 June, we were delighted to welcome 24 first and second year students to their first day as a Bath Insights intern.
The Bath Insights internship programme is available exclusively to Bath students, and provides the opportunity to gain work experience in a University department on campus. The internships will last for 8 weeks and are paid at Grade 2, which meets (or exceeds) the real living wage. As an additional bonus, all of the interns receive free on-campus accommodation for the duration of their internship.
All professional services and faculties/schools are able to offer internships, and this year we have interns with teams as diverse as Campus Service, Psychology, the Library, Academic Registry, and the SU - among many others.
The interns spent the day with colleagues from the Skills Centre, Careers, the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the Doctoral College covering a wide range of topics. In the afternoon, there was a joint session with the line managers to get to know each other and set joint goals for the next 8 weeks.
Helen Stringer, Director of Employability and Student Success who introduced the programme in 2024, said:
These internships give first and second year students - who we know find gaining work experience a real challenge as organisations often ask for prior experience and skills they haven't had a chance to develop yet - the opportunity to work on a real project, developing a range of sought-after skills and competencies, while being supported by their host department and colleagues from the Careers Team. Delivering the internships is a real cross-institution effort, and we hope the interns find their experiences this summer exciting, rewarding, and fun.
This year's interns will be sharing their experiences throughout the summer, so keep an eye on the Careers Instagram account and blog for updates.
