This June, we welcomed female school students to our Women in Engineering Day and Girls into Engineering events. The events gave students the chance to take part in a range of engineering activities and find out what studying engineering is like.

Women in Engineering Day

National Women in Engineering Day aims to raise the profile of women in engineering and the amazing career opportunities available in industry. Our Student Women's Engineering Society (WESBath) celebrated the day by inviting local year seven and eight girls to take part in hands-on activities including purifying water and building straw towers.

Girls into Engineering event

We welcomed over 80 Year 12 students from schools across the UK for our Girls into Engineering event. Group activities on the day included lipstick making, building a tensegrity, designing and making games and using liquid nitrogen to levitate objects.

Students also learnt about the engineering placement opportunities at Bath and heard from PhD students and recent graduates about their education and employment in Engineering and Architecture.

One of the visiting students commented: 'I’ve found today really fun and extremely useful. I love studying maths and physics at school and I now have a much better idea of the variety of engineering courses available to me. Hearing from recent graduates also highlighted how varied and interesting a career in engineering can be.'
