The proposed £34.5m Polden development, located to the west of the campus, would offer 293 ensuite bedrooms in 37 flats across two buildings arranged around a landscaped courtyard.

The flats would be organised in pairs with a shared kitchen, diner and flexible social space and easy access to the buildings’ gym, communal study spaces, drying rooms and cycle stores.

The buildings, which were outlined in the Campus Masterplan, would complement the existing Polden Court accommodation.

The plans also propose a ‘home zone’ around the building with physical kerbs replaced by raised planters and seating to encourage pedestrians and vehicle drivers to safely share road space.

Dependent on planning consent, construction could start in September with the aim of opening for the new academic year in 2018.

The President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, said:

State of the art accommodation on campus is essential to maintain the high-quality experience we offer our students.

This building is the next step in our strategy to attract students of the highest calibre to Bath.
