Following discussions with our local public health officials, we have had to postpone the graduation ceremonies due to be held in July.
Our teams have been working really hard to plan socially-distanced graduation ceremonies safely, in marquees on our campus, in line with restrictions under Step 3 of the UK Government’s roadmap, even though these may have been further relaxed or lifted entirely by 19 July.
In our email on 17 June, we reminded those registered to attend of the possibility that the graduation ceremonies may be subject to cancellation or amendment at short notice but we were hoping that this would not be necessary.
However, after the recent increase in Covid cases nationally and locally, the Director of Public Health of Bath & North East Somerset Council has informed us that she has concerns about events such as our graduations which would encourage significant numbers of people to travel from across the country to the City of Bath. The very recent upward trajectory of positive cases in the local population amongst younger age groups, across the local authority area, has caused concern in particular. The local Director of Public Health has, therefore, advised us to postpone our graduation ceremonies in July.
We are so sorry not to be able to welcome our graduates to campus for their graduation ceremony as we had been doing everything in our power to do the best we can for them. We hope that all will understand that the health and safety of our staff, students, visitors and the wider community to which we belong has always been a priority for us and that we must take the advice given by our local public health colleagues, as we have done throughout the pandemic.
We understand that this news will be very disappointing, particularly for those who were unable to take part in graduation ceremonies in 2020. We have made contact as rapidly as we can to seek to give time for graduates to adjust their plans.
We will publish more information shortly.
Future Ceremony Arrangements
All graduates who had registered to attend the ceremonies this year will have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements in person on a future occasion at a point when circumstances allow. We cannot commit to a date at this time, but unfortunately it is unlikely to be this summer.
We will begin posting degree certificates and transcripts to all those who have just completed their degree during the week commencing 19 July 2021.
Certificates will be sent by Royal Mail to UK addresses and DHL to overseas addresses.
