The Careers Centre is looking for talented student artists to re‑imagine our reception area with an inspiring mural that will welcome visitors and serve as the visual heart of our space for years to come.
This competition offers you a unique opportunity to gain real‑world design experience, enhance your portfolio with a major university installation, and create something meaningful that will inspire fellow students as they embark on their career journeys.
What we're looking for
We're seeking a design that captures the spirit of possibility, growth and life‑long success that defines the university experience. Your mural will be the first thing visitors see when they enter our Careers Centre—a visual welcome that sets the tone for the guidance and opportunities within.
We want you to design a mural that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere behind our front desk that welcomes visitors, inspires, energises, and speaks to the diverse paths our students will take. The winning design will:
- Create a positive first impression for Careers Centre visitors
- Capture the spirit of possibility and potential
- Include thoughtful integration of our Careers logo
- Resonate with students from all disciplines and backgrounds
- Balance professionalism with creativity and inspiration – it definitely won't be overly corporate
We want you to see the space for what it is - a blank canvas - and let your imagination run wild. Whether it's drawing an illustration, using photographs, creating some beautiful typography... or all of these!
How to take part
- To get started, explore the specifications and briefing pack via UniHub. If you like the idea and want to find out more or have questions, come and meet us in the Careers Centre on 6 May 2025 between 10:00 – 16:00. Find out more. You'll be able to see the wall location in person, understand how it interacts with the reception area, and ask us any questions you've got. If you're studying remotely or are on placement don't worry—just let us know by email and we can arrange a Teams meeting with you instead.
- When you're happy with the space and have an idea, work on your design. You can do this as an individual or as a team.
- Submit your design. When your design is final, submit it to us via this form. The deadline for all submissions is 09:00 on 30 June 2025.
- Selection and implementation. We'll shortlist our favourite designs and invite the shortlisted designers to talk to us about their mural concepts. The winning design will be professionally printed and installed on our Careers Centre wall by 1 October 2025.
Eligibility
This competition is exclusively open to current university students. Submissions are encouraged from individuals and teams, and you don't have to be based on campus—if you're studying remotely or are on placement don't worry. Just let us know by email and we can arrange a Teams meeting with you instead.
The prize
The winning designer(s) will win a £100 Bath Gift Card and have their artwork prominently displayed as a permanent fixture in our Careers Centre, providing excellent portfolio material and campus‑wide recognition.

- Drop‑in to the Careers Centre to ask questions, see the space, and find out more: 6 May 2025
- Initial design submission: 09:00 on 30 June 2025
- Shortlisted design discussions: 7 – 11 July 2025
- Winner(s) announced: 25 July 2025
- Grand unveiling: 1 October 2025
Please note that we may delay announcing the winner and/or unveiling the final design if sufficient applications aren't received. If this happens, we will carry all submissions forward.
