The Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (I-SEE) was delighted to welcome Will Godfrey, Chief Executive of Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council on Tuesday 18 February 2020 to give a seminar on campus entitled "Building Partnerships in Bath and North East Somerset to Tackle the Sustainability Challenge".
Will's seminar focused on how BANES is dealing with the climate and nature emergency, especially in partnership across the Council and beyond. This includes an ambitious plan of net zero carbon emissions in BANES by 2030, 20 years ahead of the national Government's zero carbon target. There was a packed audience, including the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian White, and a lively question and answer session after the seminar.
The University is currently engaged in dialogue with BANES, at the highest levels in both organisations, on a wide range of "Town and Gown" issues including sustainable development. Will's fascinating seminar was a timely and important contribution to that.
