Apply for 2019/20 funding strand 3: Future Research Leaders Scheme

The scheme supports postgraduate research mobility for Bath students and visiting students from overseas institutions.

Strand 3: Doctoral mobility: future research leaders scheme

This strand supports doctoral mobility for both individual training needs and institutional partnership development.

About the strand

Developing opportunities for short-term postgraduate research visits is a vital element of our University’s strategy and aims to support students in enhancing their employability in the global recruitment market while creating the university networks of the future.

The Future Research Research Leaders Scheme supports doctoral mobility for both individual training needs and institutional partnership development.

This strand provides funding support for incoming, outgoing and reciprocal postgraduate research visits of up to 6 months.

Outgoing visits

Doctoral students at the University of Bath visiting universities or research institutions in other countries may apply for a travel & subsistence award of up to £1,000 per month for visits of up to 6 months.

Incoming visits

Doctoral students at one of Bath’s international partner institutions may apply as a visiting doctoral student at the University of Bath. The award includes a full fee-waiver and, for students without adequate funding, a travel & subsistence award of up to £1,000 per month, for up to 6 months.

Please note: Doctoral students at other institutions may also apply to visit the University of Bath through the Visiting Postgraduate Scholar (VPS) scheme, which is administered through the Doctoral College, independent of the Future Research Leaders Scheme.

Reciprocal visits

Reciprocal visits for two doctoral students (from and to the UK) are also encouraged to support peer-to-peer interaction and enable the development of joint PhD supervision capacities. Applications may be for one-off or multiple visits for up to 6 months in total.
