Covid-19 statistics

Confirmed cases within the University community until March 27 2022.

Latest confirmed cases

These figures show reported cases in staff and students by week, until March 27 2022.

The provision of free universal symptomatic and asymptomatic testing for the general public in England ended on April 1 and therefore the University ceased weekly updates from March 27. For case numbers in the B&NES area, see their Covid-19 dashboard.

Mar 7-13 2022 10 10
Mar 14-20 2022 32 16
Mar 21-27 2022 32 12

These figures include new confirmed Covid-19 cases that are reported to the University by our staff or students. They include students who are in University accommodation or in private accommodation in Bath and the local area, and staff who had contact with the University in the two days before experiencing symptoms, in line with Public Health England guidance.

The data prior to 11 January 2022 only includes positive cases validated by PCR testing. From 11 January 2022 confirmatory PCR tests are no longer required for all cases in England after a positive test using a Lateral Flow Device and so from that date the data includes positive LFD tests reported to the University.

The University has 3,500 staff and around 19,000 enrolled students.

What happens when we receive a report of a positive test

The actions the University takes when it is informed of a positive Covid-19 test.

When the University receives a report from either a student or from a staff member, we contact them directly to check on their welfare and offer wellbeing support and guidance, including public health advice. We also follow up to check whether staff have been on campus or in University buildings in the two days before experiencing symptoms, and other steps as outlined in our Outbreak Management Plan.

For more information see the section below titled: “Support available for staff and students”.

Support available for staff and students

A summary of the support available to staff and students who have a confirmed case of Covid-19 or need to self-isolate.

When we receive a report that a student or staff member is self-isolating we contact them directly to check on their welfare and offer support and guidance, including public health advice.

For students a University point-of-contact is provided in case they need to get back in touch.

If you live in University managed accommodation then additional support is available, including provision of food and cleaning supplies, waste removal, and support with delivery of post. Entertainment options are also available including online yoga classes, exercise equipment and provision of board games, puzzles and more.

It’s only natural that changing our ways and living with restrictions can cause tension, frustration and anxiety. Now more than ever, we need to talk. If you're a student, you can contact:
