Culturally appropriate counselling

Free counselling available from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic-led therapy service

Culturally appropriate counselling is now available to Bath students under an agreement with Nilaari, a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic-led charity in Bristol with 20 years’ experience of providing talking therapies.

Students can receive up to six free counselling sessions from Nilaari.

The provision of this service follows discussions between Student Services and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students.

Nilaari’s counsellors are trained and qualified in the same way as the University’s own therapists.

The University’s Therapeutic Services team meet Nilaari regularly to ensure a joined-up approach to student support. Both Nilaari and Therapeutic Services are committed to your privacy and confidentiality.

Counselling from Nilaari is an addition to the range of talking therapies and mental health support offered at Bath.

How to access counselling with Nilaari

You don’t need a referral from Student Services to access help from Nilaari. Just get in touch with them and provide your student number and University email address. This is the only information Nilaari provides to Student Services if you receive counselling from them. You can email Nilaari or call 0117 9525742.

Evaluating the Nilaari service

The provision of counselling to Bath students by Nilaari is a pilot project. It will be reviewed over the 2021-22 academic year. If you seek support from Nilaari, we welcome your feedback. Please email Therapeutic Services.
