Discover Bath - Summer Residentials for Year 12 Students
An overview for teachers of the Discover Bath programme - an opportunity for Year 12 students to experience first year study at Bath
Discover Bath Programme
Discover Bath gives Year 12 students meeting relevant academic requirements the opportunity to experience first year study at the University of Bath in their chosen subject.
The standard fee is £225, which covers the cost of accommodation and food throughout the stay.
Students who meet our widening participation criteria will receive a subsidised place (free of charge) on the Discover Bath programme.
How your students gain from this experience
Successful applicants will complete a set of pre-residential online modules which will mimic University style learning where they will develop their subject knowledge in preparation for the residential stay at the University. At the University students will get to take part in a set of first-year undergraduate lectures, workshops and projects such as laboratory experiments. After their stay students will have the opportunity, with support from current undergraduates, to write up a report which will be marked to a first-year undergraduate standard.
If students meet the University's widening participation criteria and achieve a B/2:1 in their report they will be eligible for an alternative offer at the University of Bath.
After completing their report students will get further support with making a competitive application and successful transition to university.
Students will develop key skills for success at the University of Bath, have a taste of life on campus and experience the lectures, seminars, workshops and social activities on offer at Bath.
We run Discover Bath Summer Schools in Science, Engineering, Social Sciences and Management. Summer 2020 summer schools will be advertised in Autumn 2019.
Your students can attend our Discover Bath residentials if they meet the academic requirements. There are specific academic requirements for each of the residentials.
If they meet our widening participation criteria we will offer them a subsided place (free of charge).
All students who meet the University's widening participation criteria, successfully complete the Discover Bath programme and apply for a University of Bath course will receive additional consideration at the point of admission.
In addition to this, all students who complete the programme, attend satisfactorily, write up their work as a report achieving a B/2:1 or above and apply to the University of Bath are eligible for an alternative offer. This means that if they are made an offer then they will receive both the typical and alternative offer. The alternative offer is usually a reduction by one grade in one of their A levels. For example, AAA would become AAB plus a B in the Discover Bath project.
There are limitations and exemptions to the alternative offer.

Our 2019 summer schools have now finished. 2020 summer schools will be advertised in the autumn.
